Synopsis

Fire in the Belly is a tribute to the life and stories of Woodrow ‘Woody’ Wilson Guthrie.

Woody was the unwitting voice of the depression and dustbowl years; “All you can write is what you see”, and a champion for the hard hit folks who didn’t have a voice.  He became an inspiration for many singers such as Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Billy Bragg and Bruce Springsteen to name but a few, and father of Arlo Guthrie.

Dave Plimmer tells the story of the musician and the man mixing biographical monologue in the voice of Guthrie with his music, celebrating his art and fire plagued story.

Dave comes back to the Little Theatre where it all started for him as a teenager  many moons ago. A journey that has taken him all over the country in rep, on extensive nationwide tours to many of the country’s top theatres including the London Palladium, as well as film and television including ‘Eggy’, the much loved conspiracy theorist in BBC1’s Count Arthur Strong (written by Steve Delaney and Graham Linehan).
